Good news for Australia's MICE Industry

According to Tourism Australia’s Quarterly Market Update, business arrivals for events from all of our key markets – namely New Zealand, the USA, China, Japan and India – declined by 8 per cent over the year to September 2013.

However, a renewed desire from the USA to organise incentive travel and events Down Under has been reported, so we could be seeing more business arrivals in the coming years.

In fact, Tourism Australia revealed that five events have already been booked into the International Convention Centre in Sydney, which is not set to open until late 2016. These will inject approximately $34 million into the state’s economy.

There’s more good news for Australia’s MICE industry in the International Meetings Statistics Report, published annually by the Union of International Associations. This reveals all of the “top international meeting countries” in the world, with Singapore, Japan, the USA, Belgium and Korea taking out the initial five spots.

Australia managed to make it onto the list at number 10 – a huge achievement that the MICE industry should be extremely proud of.

Australia’s MICE Industry is well on its way to be worth $16 billion by the end of the decade as Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia are increasingly being seen as appealing to host meetings.
